Two Mile House is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in County Kildare, Ireland. The club grounds are located on The Commons, just off the Dunlavin Road. The parish of Two Mile House is surrounded by the towns of Naas, Newbridge and Kilcullen meaning it occupies a very central location. Two Mile House are the 2014 All Ireland JFC Champions after defeating Fuerty of Roscommon 5-7 to 1-11 on February 9, 2014.
History
Two Mile House club was founded by Tiarnán O'Brien in 1887 and had 70 members in its first year. RIC records from 1890 show that Two Mile House St Auxilius had 50 members with officers listed as Revd R Byrne, Thomas Nugent and William Dempsey.
Gaelic Football
- Jimmy O'Connor won an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship medal with Kildare in 1919.
- Maurice Colbert (also won a leinster minor medal), Shane Darcy and Christopher Burke are all holders of Leinster Under-21 Football Championship medals, meaning a player has represented the club on Kildare's last three consecutive Leinster under-21 winning teams.
- Peter Kelly is the club's sole representative on the Kildare senior team. He has secured a starting position as right corner back.He won an All Star in 2010.
- Niall Browne captained Kildare at Minor, U21 and Junior level and represented Kildare at Senior Level. He also represented Clare Senior Footballers and played in the McGrath Cup Final and the Munster Senior Football Final of 2011 and 2012 respectively.
- Matt Kelly was a Senior Panelist for Kildare in 2012 and played wing back for Kildare in the 2011 All Ireland Junior Final.
- Shane Darcy, played Minor, U21 and Junior for Kildare winning 3 Leinster titles at U21 and Junior Level. He played Midfield for Kildare in the All Ireland Junior final of 2013.
- William Burke played U21 for Kildare and also started full back for Kildare in the 2013 All Ireland Junior Final.
- Chris Burke was a panelist for Kildare u21S that reached the 2008 All Ireland U21 Final.
- Conor Blake won an All Ireland Schools medal with Knockbeg in 2005.
- Mark Sherry, Chris Healy, Adam Burke & Richard Drumgoole Maguire won a Leinster minor championship with Kildare in 2013.Mark Sherry captained the side and Chris Healy won the Man of the Match Award.
Other Current players that represented Kildare are as follows; Donal Browne, John Goff, Niall McLoughlin, Nathan Sherry, Chris Julian, Aidan Casey, Ian Caffrey, Robbie Brazil, Matt Stapleton, Glen Burke, Gavin Burke.
Underage development only really began in earnest in the early 1980s thereby making Two Mile House a relatively young club in real terms. From the late 1990s until recently the focus of the club had been exclusively on Gaelic football. Underage Hurling teams are now competing for Two Mile House.
The club senior team is currently playing in the Intermediate Championship and division 2 league football. The club senior team is currently managed by former Dublin player Barney Rock. Nathan Sherry is current captain of the club senior football team. The club's grounds are currently undergoing an exciting new development.New land was acquired off The Commons with several new pitches being added. The grounds,which have been largely completed,should be ready for use nearing the end of 2012 making Two Mile House one of the foremost clubs in the county in terms of facilities and location.Furthermore,work has begun on the redevelopment of the existing dressing rooms and pavilion.
Camogie
The camogie club competed in the 1950s and 1960s, beating Caragh 5-0 to 4-2 to win the 1967 county championship. The team got to the Leinster in the 1956 inter-provincial final, and also being selected on the Kildare camogie team of the century. Two Mile House camogie club revived briefly in 1991 and enjoyed many years of underage success until the late 1990s.
