Ultramajic was founded by Jimmy Edgar, artist Pilar Zeta and Travis Stewart (Machinedrum) in 2013.[1] They have released over a dozen albums in the electronic genre, with both Zeta and Edgar designing most album covers.[2][3] Among releases in 2013 were Danny Daze, L-Vis 1990, Matrixxman, Aden, and Edgar himself.[4] Recent releases include discs by artists such as Spatial, whose 2014 EP Vice Media called the label's "most beautiful album yet."[5]
History
DJ and producer Jimmy Edgar met and befriended artist Pilar Zeta round 2011, when both were living in Berlin.[6] Upon meeting Edgar, Zeta explained that "We have similar influences and backgrounds, so we just started working on different projects together: covers, tarot cards, collages, rituals etc."[7] While traveling in Machu Picchu in 2013, Zeta and Edgar founded the label Ultramajic.[6] Machinedrum, a Berlin DJ and collaborator with Edgar, is also a founder of the company.[1]
DJ Broadcast dubbed Zeta the "primary design outlet" for the label, still based in Berlin as of September 2013, though Edgar also designs a large number of the label's album covers.[7] Now based in Los Angeles, the company works on multi-media projects in music, art, photography, video, and installations.[6] Among other projects the label has the release series Metaphysix, with artists given themes and ideas such as "mentalism" to interpret artistically.[8] "Danny Daze - Silicon," released on Ultramajic, was featured in the magazine Viewpoint Surface in 2014.[9] Zeta continues to design much of the label's cover art.[10]
