Vtiger CRM is an open source CRM application developed by the company Vtiger. Vtiger CRM is available as free open source software based on PHP and MySQL, and as a subscription-based cloud application through Vtiger's website.
History
In September 2004, the first developer version of Vtiger CRM 1.0 was published online as a fork of version 1.0 of the SugarCRM project.[2]
In December 2004, the first commercial version of Vtiger CRM 3.2 was launched.[3] The project saw 10,000 downloads on SourceForge by the commercial release.[4]
In April 2005, Vtiger CRM 4.0 launched.[2] By the end of April, the project had been downloaded a total of 150,000 times on SourceForge.[5]
On March 2007, Vtiger CRM 5.0 launched.[2] By the end of March, the project had been downloaded a total of 600,000 times on SourceForge.[6]
In September 2010, Vtiger launched Vtiger CRM On Demand, a cloud-based version of its downloadable CRM. This eliminated the need for developers to install and support the application on-premise.[7]
In 2014, Vtiger launched Vtiger CRM 6.0, which is the current major version of Vtiger Open Source.[2] This included an interface redesign and a built-in extension marketplace,[8] enabling third-party developers to develop plugins and extensions for Vtiger CRM, which non-technical users could then purchase and install directly from the Vtiger CRM interface. In 2014, Vtiger CRM was also named an open source market leader for 7 of the last 8 years.[9] By late 2014, Vtiger CRM been downloaded on SourceForge more than 3.7 million times.[10]
On June 29, 2016, Vtiger CRM open source crossed both 4.5 million downloads on SourceForge,[11] and 100 third party extensions listed on the Vtiger extension marketplace.
