The Wauconda Area Library is a public library located in Wauconda, Illinois. The library district covers portions of Lake and McHenry Counties in Illinois and is a member of the North Suburban Library System (NSLS).
History
The library was founded in 1939 by the Wauconda Women’s Club and became a township library in 1962. It became a public library district in 1988. Its newest location building opened in 1997. The library earned the Distinguished Building Award in 1998 from the American Institute of Architects.[2]
Wauconda’s recently renovated and remodeled library is the library of the future, built to accommodate the changing ways that people learn, seek information and engage in community activities.[3]
Awards
The Wauconda Area Library was named Library of the Year in 2005 by the NSLS, a consortium of 650 academic, public, school, and special libraries in north suburban Cook, Kane, Lake and McHenry Counties.[2]
