The Men's Featherweight Weightlifting Event (–60 kg) was the third lightest men's event at the weightlifting competition, limiting competitors to a maximum of 60 kilograms of body mass. Each weightlifter had three attempts for both the snatch and clean and jerk lifting methods. The total of the best successful lift of each method was used to determine the final rankings and medal winners.
Competition took place on July 31 in the 4,500 capacity Albert Gersten Pavilion.
Due to the 1984 Summer Olympics boycott, the competition featured very few competitors who had been to the previous year's World Championships. Despite this, it was the only weightlifting event in which a medallist from the World Championships competed, Gelu Radu, who won a bronze medal. World Championship silver medallist Stefan Topurov decided to compete at the Friendship Games instead.[1]
