The Men's Lightweight Weightlifting Event (67.5 kg) was the fourth lightest men's event at the weightlifting competition, limiting competitors to a maximum of 67.5 kilograms of body mass. Each weightlifter had three attempts for both the snatch and clean and jerk lifting methods. The total of the best successful lift of each method was used to determine the final rankings and medal winners.

Competition took place on August 1 in the 4,500 capacity Albert Gersten Pavilion.

Due to the 1984 Summer Olympics boycott, the competition featured none of the top 4 competitors who had been to the previous year's World Championships. Defending Olympic champion Yanko Rusev of Bulgaria decided to compete at the Friendship Games instead, winning with a total of 337.5 kilograms, 17.5 more than was needed for the Olympic gold medal.[1]
