History
Wildwood Centre was opened on September 29, 1991 to the south of Birmingham, but north of Hoover, Alabama on Lakeshore Drive next to I-65. The mall's original anchor stores were Sam's Club and Walmart. Walmart was originally a discount store, but expanded into a supercenter in the mid-1990s. Adjoining the Walmart and Sam's Club is the 325,000-square-foot (30,200 m2) retail strip mall developed in the first phase. Anchor tenants now include Hobby Lobby, SuperPetz, and K&G Menswear. The Center also includes approximately 100,000 square feet (9,300 m2) of shop space.
Redevelopment
The redevelopment of the project will take place adjacent to OfficeMax and includes all space through and in front of the former Regal Cinema space. The existing space in this area of the center has been demolished and approximately 180,000 square feet (17,000 m2) of new retail space will be constructed in its place. Renovation of the remaining Center will also take place at the time of the redevelopment. The targeted tenant mix for the redevelopment will consist of national retailers in the electronics, home, and apparel categories and may possibly include a department store with a national presence.[2]
