The Wyndham Hotel at Playhouse Square is a high-end 182 feet, 14 story, high-rise Wyndham Hotel in downtown Cleveland's Theater District on Huron Road and Euclid Avenue.[1] It is the only Wyndham Hotel in Ohio, the next closest Wyndham is in Pittsburgh.[2] The facade features windows intersected by ribbons of lightly colored metal. The curved hotel butts right up against the historic Halle Brothers Co. main office tower. It is the fifth tallest building in the district, after the 272 foot 1922-built Keith Building, the 210 foot 1991-built US Bank Centre - Cleveland, the 194 foot 1921-built Hanna Building and the 185 foot 1910-built Halle Building.[3]

Importance to Playhouse Square

On July 7 of 1995, the foundation celebrated the newest major addition to the district at a ceremony honoring the completion of the 27 million dollar hotel which continues the theatre theme of district by having its ballrooms and meeting places named after famous Cleveland theatres including the surviving Palace Theater, the torn down Roxy and the demolished Hippodrome.[4] In many ways, the Wyndham has helped cement the districts motto of having people live, work, play and stay within the district itself.[5] The building and sidewalk around the hotel also has fiber optic lighting in an effort to increase pedestrian safety and enhance foot traffic in the square.[6]

The hotel and ballrooms opened in 1995 and can best described as a post modern metal tinged hotel.[7] The hotel is the main booking site for those traveling to Playhouse Square, whether they are just visiting from out of town or they are performing at one of the ten venues at PSC. The hotel recently went through a multimillion-dollar renovation that included updating the high speed internet access, refining amenities in the hotel's 233 rooms and upgraded bathworks.[8] The cylindrical design of the skyscraper hugs the corners of Huron and Euclid in a style akin to the Flatiron Building in New York City.
