Yaduveera Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar (Kannada: ಯದುವೀರ ಕೃಷ್ಣದತ್ತ ಚಾಮರಾಜ ಒಡೆಯರ್) (born 24 March 1992) (Chamaraja Wadiyar XII) is the 27th and present titular Maharaja of Mysore and head of the former ruling Wadiyar dynasty. His late great-uncle, Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, died in December 2013 without naming a successor, leaving the throne and family headship vacant. In February 2015, after an interregnum of over a year, Yaduveer was adopted by Pramoda Devi, Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar's widow, as her son. Consequent to his adoption, he became the natural son of Sri Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar and Smt Pramoda Devi Wadiyar and he was formally renamed Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar.

Early life

Born as Yaduveer Gopal Raj Urs, he is the only son of Swarup Anand Gopal Raj Urs (born 1 January 1960) of the Bettadakote clan of the Urs family, and his wife, Rajakumari Tripurasundari Devi (born 11 March 1966) (nickname, Leela), the niece of the late Maharaja and the eldest daughter of Maharajakumari Gayatri Devi (10 October 1946 – July 1974) and her husband Sardar K.B. Ramachandraraj Urs (10 May 1936 – 29 June 2011).[1] He has a younger sister, Jayathmika Lakshmi.

Education

He studied in Vidya Niketan School in Bangalore up to class 10, and completed his education through class 12 at the Canadian International School, Bangalore, after which he obtained an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.[2]

Personal life

He married Trishika Kumari, daughter of Harshvardhan Singh and Maheshree Kumari of Dungarpur royal family on 27 June 2016.[3]

As Maharaja

At a press conference held on February 12, at the Palace, Mysore, Maharani Pramoda Devi Wadiyar announced the name of her 'Adopted son Designate' and formally adopted him in a ceremony on the 23rd of February 2015. The ceremony was a private affair, followed by a public procession late in the evening. Consequent to his adoption, he was formally renamed Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar and his coronation ceremony took place on May 28, 2015.[4][5][6]
