Zangilan (Armenian: Կովսական / Kovsakan) is a town which is de jure located in the Zangilan Rayon of Azerbaijan. Since the Nagorno-Karabakh War it has been administered as part of Kashatagh Region by the de facto independent Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh. Zangilan was part of Ancient Armenia and also the Kingdom of Artsakh but was deliberately excluded from the Karabakh Autonomous Region in 1923, but then reunited with Nagorno Karabakh Republic during the National Liberation War.[2]
