Zero Project
The Zero Project is an initiative of the Austrian Essl Foundation and organized jointly with the World Future Council.[1] and the European Foundation Centre,[2] focusing on the rights of people with disabilities globally. It provides a platform to share the most innovative and effective solutions to problems that persons with disabilities face[3]
Mission and vision
The Zero Project’s aim is to identify the most innovative policies and practices from around the world that improve the lives of persons with disabilities, as well as researching social indicators that measure the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. An ever-growing network of over 3,000 disability experts – with and without disabilities - in over 150 countries is involved in the process of identification and selection of the policies and practices, as well as researching social indicators.[4][5]
Activities
With the website, reports and conferences, the Zero Project disseminates and promotes its research.
- The annual Zero Project Report[6] presents the practices and policies that have been selected as the most innovative in their approach to that year’s theme from the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities.
- Those behind the innovative policies and practices present their solutions to their peers involved in the world of disabilities, including stakeholders, government ministers and other key influencers at an annual conference.[7][8] They also receive an award for the incredible work they have done, helping them to raise their profile, network and to inspire others.[9]
Awards
The Zero Project has been awarded with the Global Alliance on Accessible Technologies and Environments Award of Recognition in 2015[10][11]
