A United States Marines (US Marines) Lockheed KC-130F Hercules, flying Marines back to Vietnam from a rest and relaxation leave in Hong Kong, crashed on take-off killing 59 of those on board on August 24, 1965.
The accident
Lockheed KC-130F Hercules, (Bu.No.149802) veered left shortly after take-off, struck a sea wall and crashed into the harbour, 40 ft (12 m) off Hong Kong Island.[1]
Cause
The cause of the accident is attributed to a partial failure of the no.1 engine during take-off.[1]
