Anya Taylor-Joy (born 16 April 1996)[1] is an American-born Argentine-British[2] actress and model. She is a modern scream queen, having initially gained fame when she starred in the horror films The Witch, Morgan and Split.
Early life
Taylor-Joy was born in Miami, Florida, the youngest of six children.[3] Her mother is Spanish-English and her father is Scottish-Argentinian.[4][5] Taylor-Joy has since lived in Argentina and the United Kingdom. She is a former ballet dancer.[3]
Career
Her major breakthrough was her leading performance as Thomasin in Robert Eggers' critically acclaimed horror film The Witch, alongside Ralph Ineson and Kate Dickie.
In 2016, Taylor-Joy starred in the science fiction horror film Morgan, directed by Luke Scott, son of filmmaker Ridley Scott.[6] It was released on 2 September 2016.[7]
In February 2016, it was announced she would co-star in Vikram Gandhi's new film Barry, a film focused on a young Barack Obama in 1981 New York City. Taylor-Joy is set to play one of Obama's close friends.[8] In March 2016, it was reported that Taylor-Joy was being approached to star as Magik in an upcoming adaptation of the New Mutants comic book series, slated to be a part of the X-Men film franchise.[9][10]
She also was the lead actress in the music video for Skrillex's remix of GTA's song Red Lips.[11]
