Asia Pacific Transport Consortium (APTC) is a project company operated by a group of construction companies. In June 1999, the AustralAsia Rail Corporation (AARC) was awarded the contract to build and operate the Adelaide-Darwin railway line. It operates as a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer project with ownership to pass to the Government of Australia in 2054.[1][2]
The consortium consists of the following companies:
- Kellogg Brown & Root
- John Holland Group
- Barclay Mowlem (in 2006 Barclay Mowlem was acquired by Carillion and then by Laing O'Rourke, however the equity remained with Carillion post the acquisition)
- Macmahon Holdings
- Australian Railroad Group
The Asia Pacific Transport Consortium contracted FreightLink to implement the project and to operate the railway. The APTC leases some assets on the Alice Springs to Darwin section from the AARC, and subleases of the Alice Springs to Tarcoola railway from the Government of Australia through the AARC.
