Barry Quin is an English football coach, who is currently Head Of Coaching at the academy of Championship side Watford. He previously spent two decades working in the youth setup at Brentford and served as first team caretaker manager for the final three games of the 2006/07 season.[1][2]

Coaching career

Brentford

Quin began working in the youth setup at Brentford in the early 1990s and was later named as Head Of Youth Development in 1996.[3] Quin was named youth team manager in October 2004 by Martin Allen and was joined by Scott Fitzgerald as his assistant.[4] Fitzgerald replaced Quin as youth team manager in the summer of 2005, with Quin continuing in his role as Head Of Youth Development.[5] Throughout his tenure, Quin ran Brentford's Centre Of Excellence on a limited budget.[3] Quin left the Bees in July 2010 after 20 years with the club and was replaced by Ose Aibangee,[1][6] who would oversee Brentford's transition from running a Centre Of Excellence to a Category Two Academy, which was opened in January 2014.[7]

Caretaker manager

Quin had a spell as caretaker manager of the Brentford first team towards the end of the 2006/07 season.[8] Over the course of a disastrous League One season, managers Leroy Rosenior and Scott Fitzgerald were sacked in November 2006 and April 2007 respectively.[8] With the club already relegated to League Two, Quin served as caretaker manager for the final three games of the campaign.[2] Quin's first match was against Doncaster Rovers on 21 April 2007, which resulted in a 3-0 defeat.[9] The Bees picked up a surprise win in the following game, beating Port Vale 4-3.[10] Quin's final match in charge was a 3-1 defeat to Tranmere Rovers and he was unable to keep Brentford from finishing bottom of League One.[11] Quin picked squads with a heavy emphasis on youth, giving professional debuts to Lewis Dark and Ross Montague and including other youth products Karleigh Osborne, Darius Charles, Charlie Ide, Karle Carder-Andrews, Ryan Peters, Clark Masters, Seb Brown and Bradley Falco.[9][10][11] After the season, Terry Butcher was appointed first team manager.[12]

Watford

Quin coached at the Harefield Academy as part of Watford's coaching scheme during the 2010/11 season, before being named U12-U16 academy manager in June 2011. Quin took charge of Watford's Mayo International Cup side in 2012.[13] Quin managed Watford's U15 sides in 2012 and 2013 editions of the Milk Cup,[14] seeing the team to a third-place finish in 2013.[15] Quin was named Head Of Coaching at the academy in 2013.[15] He managed the club's reserve team between August and December 2014.[16]
