Beri is a town and a municipal committee in the Jhajjar district northern Indian state of Haryana. The town is located 65 kilometres (40 mi) northwest of Delhi and is a trading center.Beri is one of the largest Tehsils of Haryana State including 77 villages.Beri City is situated on Gurgaon-Jhajjar-Bhiwani-Hisar State Highway No.122, The first Chief Minister of Haryana, Bhagwat Dayal Sharma, was from Beri. The town has a temple dedicated to the goddess Bhimeshwari and Lord Krishna.[1]
Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[2] Beri had a population of 16,146. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Beri has an average literacy rate of 55%, lower than the national average of 59.5%; with 57% of the males and 43% of females literate. 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Overview
Beri is the administrative headquarters of Beri sub-division(उपमंडल) (a Tehsil before August 15, 2009) in Jhajjar district in the state of Haryana, India. Sant Lal Pachar became its first SDM. Presently Sh. Ajay Malik holds the post of SDM Beri, and has his own Tehsil Head office. Presently Poonam Babbar holds the post of Tehsildar Beri. Beri has two gausalas on the outskirts(श्री 1008 जयराम दास पंचायती गौशाला बेरी). Beri City is also famous for Its Khoya Burffis & GaazarPaak of Gunga Halwai famous Samose of BhagwanDas Halwai, Mota Makhana Of Naanu Halwai. Beri has its own Police Station on Gurgaon-jhajjar-Bhiwani Road. The Police Station is headed by Sh. Baljeet Singh
History
Beri town and sub-division, which previously fell under district Rohtak, Haryana, is now a part of newly created Jhajjar district from July 15, 1997 onwards. It is a large village and is also one of the seats of Haryana Vidhan Sabha constituency. Dr.Raghubir Singh Kadian is Present M.L.A From congress of Halka Beri. After the creation of Haryana on 1 November 1966, the first Chief Minister of the State, Dr. Bhagwat Dayal Sharma, was from this village.The Hospital in Rohtak PGIMS was Also Named on him.(Pt.B.D Sharma Post Graduate Institute Of Medical Sciences).His daughter Aarti Kadian is Senior chief Lady Doctor in AIIMS Delhi.
Late Pt.Mahesh Chandra Sharma, MA, LLB of Village Beri retired in 1977 as Joint Chief Electoral Officer,Haryana and He also served as Director Local Bodies. Later during the Chief Ministership of Chaudhary Devi Lal in 1987 He served as Chairman of Haryana Land Reclamation and Development Corporation.
It is a historical City, in existence from pre-Mahabharata period. The famous Bheemeshwari Temple is situated on the outskirts of this village, connected to many folk tales relating to one of the Pandavas, Bheemsen. The temple attracts large crowds from many surrounding villages. Many traders and businessmen of this village have now shifted to Hisar,Bhiwani,Happur, Muzaffarnagar(U.P.),Delhi, Mumbai & Kolkata and other parts of the country. Rahis Late Lala Paras Ram Goel Family was one of them. Rahis Late Lala Paras Ram Goel have their owned Ponds & Temples in Beri . They still own their traditional houses in the village and pay regular visits to the temple. Beri also used to host the largest cathtle fair of India, which has now shifted to neighbouring Jahazgarh village. Beri Is called the land of soldiers. The Presently Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Is also from Beri (Bishan). Beri has generated many village from it. Like Wazirpur, Baghpur, Bishan etc.They are also known as Beri. Beri Village Gives many Swimmers To India At International Level..Most of The Swimming Coaches & D.P's in India Are From Beri..
Transportation
Beri is situated on Gurgaon-Bhiwani-Hisar-Sirsa Highway with easy road access to Rohtak, Bhiwani, Tosham, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Hisar, Sirsa, Palwal, Hanumangarh, Ganganagar, Delhi, Chandigarh, and Jaipur. The nearest Metro station on the Delhi metro Green Line is located in the Mundka 40 kilometres away.
