Emojimovie: Express Yourself is an upcoming American 3D computer-animated adventure comedy film directed by Tony Leondis and written by Eric Siegel and Leondis. Produced by Sony Pictures Animation, the film will be released on August 4, 2017 by Columbia Pictures.[1]
Synopsis
The movie will center on Gene, a multi-expressional emoji, as he sets out on a journey to become a normal emoji.[2][3]

Production
On July 21, 2015, it was announced that Sony Pictures Animation had won the bidding war, against Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures, of an animated film centered on emoji, based on the script by Eric Siegel and Tony Leondis, with Leondis also directing the film. Michelle Raimo Kouyate would produce the film.[5] At 2016 CinemaCon, the film was officially announced and it was revealed that it would be set in the digital world in a smartphone.[6]
In July 2016, T. J. Miller was announced[4] as lead Emoji Gene in a tweet by Sony Pictures Animation[7] on World Emoji Day.
In October 2016, it was announced that Ilana Glazer and James Corden will be joining the cast as well.[3]
Release
In November 2015, Sony scheduled the film to be released on August 11, 2017.[8] A year later, it was moved forward to August 4, 2017, with Sony's Baby Driver taking its date.[1]
