George Dodington (died 1720)

George Dodington (c. 1662 – 28 March 1720) was a Whig politician under the patronage of Edward Russell, 1st Earl of Orford. ^[1]

He was the son of John Dodington of Dodington, Somerset.

He was elected Member of Parliament for Winchelsea for 1705 to 1708, for Bridgwater from 1708 to 1713, for Winchelsea from 1713 to 1715 and for Bridgwater from 1750 to 1720. Dodington also represented Charlemont in the Irish House of Commons from 1707 to 1713.

He served as Secretary to the Treasurer of the Navy during the reign of William III, and as Chief Secretary for Ireland from 1707 to 1708. In 1707-1708 he was Secretary to the Commissioners for the Union with Scotland and from 1708 to 1710 he was one of the Lords of the Admiralty. From 1715 until his death he was Lord Lieutenant of Somerset. ^[1]

He died in 1720 and left his estate to his nephew George Bubb, who assumed the surname of Dodington.^[2]
