Hire Township is located in McDonough County, Illinois. As of the 2010 census, its population was 229 and it contained 117 housing units.[1]
Geography
According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 37.83 square miles (98.0 km2), of which 37.79 square miles (97.9 km2) (or 99.89%) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2) (or 0.11%) is water.[1]
History
Hire was formerly known as Rock Creek Township. It was named Hire Township in 1857 after George Hire (1790-1881), who served in the Ohio Militia in the War of 1812, and was an Illinois State Legislator in 1856.
