Jessica Barden (born 21 July 1992) is an English actress.

Life and career

Barden was born in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, and moved to Wetherby, West Yorkshire, in 1995. She attended Wetherby High School.[1]

In 2007, it was announced that she would play the part of Kayleigh Morton on the ITV soap opera Coronation Street.[2][3] She made her first appearance on Sunday, 18 March 2007. She then appeared in the UK hit drama Death on Angel's Tide in late July 2007.

In April 2008, it was announced that Kayleigh and the rest of the Morton family would leave Coronation Street at the end of 2008, after just a year and a half. Jessica made her final appearance on Coronation Street on 29 September 2008.

She has also appeared in The Chase and No Angels, My Parents Are Aliens and plays Mary Ratcliffe in the 2007 film Mrs Ratcliffe's Revolution. She has played the part of 'Pea' in the highly acclaimed production Jerusalem at the 'Royal Court Theatre' in Sloane Square before being transferred to 'The Apollo' in the West End.

Barden appeared in the film Tamara Drewe, a dramatisation of the comic strip of the same name, directed by Stephen Frears. She played the role of 'Sophie' in Joe Wright's film Hanna. Her most recent film projects are In the Dark Half and the 2012 urban horror flick Comedown. She appeared in an American independent movie Lullaby that was filmed in New York.

In July 2015, Barden played the role of Kit Carmichael in the BBC’s two-part television adaptation of Sadie Jones’ debut novel The Outcast.[4]

In 2016, Barden played Ellen in Channel 4's TV movie: Ellen. Her character was a fourteen year old girl from an impoverished background who struggled to find her place and eventually got lured into a sex gang. [5]
