John J. Davis (theologian)

John J. Davis is an American theologian, archaeologist, and Christian educator. He was the President and Professor Emeritus at Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, IN.

Education

He received his B.A. from Trinity College, a M.Div., Th.M. and Th.D. from Grace Theological Seminary, and a D.D. from Trinity College. He also did post graduate work at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland and the Near East School of Archaeology in Jerusalem.

Ministry

Davis taught Old Testament, Hebrew and Archaeology courses at Grace Theological Seminary.

In addition to his work at Grace, Dr. Davis has served as a pastor of two churches (having been ordained in the Grace Brethren Church in 1962) and as a Senior Supervisor on 13 Archaeological Digs in Israel and Jordan for almost 30 years.

He leads Wild Game Dinners, works on archaeological digs, and continues working on his music career as a recording artist (since 1995) for Gospel and Hawaiian music.

He is the member of several organizations including the Evangelical Theological Society and the Near East Archaeological Society. Among his numerous journal articles and other publications are 19 books some of which are Paradise to Prison, Moses and the Gods of Egypt, Biblical Numerology, What About Cremation: A Christian View, and several humor books. His latest work was published in 2008, Conquest and Crisis: Studies in Joshua, Judges, and Ruth. He was also a translator and contributor to the NIV Study Bible. He wrote a weekly column called “Outdoor Scene” for the Warsaw, Indiana Times Union newspaper for 31 years.
