Noonday, Georgia
Noonday (spelled Noon Day on 1860s maps) was an unincorporated community located in far north-central Cobb County, Georgia. It was centered at 34°03'43"N, 84°31'16"W (34.0620437, -84.5213204), along former Georgia highway 5, around the Noonday Baptist Church. This Baptist church is still active today. The church has its Minutes dating back to 1833 on file in the Georgia Archives and a copy laminated and bound is also housed at the church office. It was the site of the Battle of Noonday Creek as Sherman's Army marched toward Atlanta. The old sanctuary was used as a field hospital and had blood stains on the wood floor, according to a letter sent by one sister to another and found in the old Minutes book. During Frontier days the church was like most others before full law-and-order came to exist. Monthly they held a Conference in which any offending members were cited to appear and defend themselves over accusations of viloating the church's rules of conduct. Little Noonday Creek runs just south of there, into Noonday Creek just to the west. The community of Blackwells was not far south of Noonday.
