Sian Welby (born 3 September 1986) is an English television presenter, best known for her work with Channel 5,[3] ITV and Channel 4 and most recently for her comedy weather forecasts gaining millions of views around the world. Most recently Sian was challenged to a pun battle with Greg James on BBC Radio 1 [4] and went viral with a Harry Potter forecast broadcast on Capital Radio.[5]
Sian recently started presenting on Heart as a cover presenter.
Early life
Sian Welby is from Upton, a small village in Nottinghamshire, England.[6] She attended Minster School, Southwell.[7] She began presenting at 19, and she was still working part-time as a shop assistant for New Look when a starring role in an advert for New! Magazine, led to her being spotted by former Channel 5 owner Richard Desmond in October 2010.[6] She was unveiled as the new face of Channel 5 News in November.[6]
Career
Welby has been the face of Channel 5 Weather since November 2010 and The Health Lottery since 2013. She also presents the Revolution Series on Channel 4, previously on ITV4 and BT Sport. She presents The Health Lottery draws every Tuesday - Saturday on Channel 5. In 2014, Welby helped to raise awareness of the disease ALS by participating in the Ice Bucket Challenge during a live weather forecast on 5 News.
Welby hosts the Revolution cycling show series for Channel 4, alongside co-worker from 5 News, newscaster Matt Barbet.[8] She presented her first documentary, Sarah Storey’s Longest Hour’ on Channel 4 in 2015. Previously she has presented cycling shows for BT Sport, Eurosport and ITV4 and is the female face of Electronic Arts.[9]
Since 2015, she's been a columnist for OK! Magazine with her Wellbeing with Welby column.
Viral fame
Having over five million views and headlines around the world with her social media output, Sian is as at home working on a six-second clip as a six-part series. And, having been featured by the likes of TIME Magazine,[10] the New York Times,[11] Buzzfeed[12] and MTV.
