Southern Maryland Roller Derby (SMRD) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Waldorf, Maryland. Founded in 2011, the league consists of a single team of women ages 18 and older which competes against teams from other leagues.

SMRD was accepted into the Women's Flat Track Derby Association Apprenticeship Program January 2015.^[1]

MAR 28 :: We make the front page of the The Calvert Recorder (Calvert County),^[3] The Maryland Independent (Charles County),^[4] and The Enterprise (St. Mary’s County) newspapers.^[5]
APR 5 :: Tattoos for Tuition Fundraiser hosted by SMRD and Chronic Ink Tattoo. We were able to raise $1550 for Autism Spectrum Support Group of Southern Maryland and their summer camp program
MAY 3 :: Public Q&A Session held at the Green Turtle in Prince Frederick, MD for people interested in joining SMRD and attending Fresh Meat Boot Camp
MAY 17 :: SMRD’s first AWAY bout against Five 40 Roller Girls (WFTDA Apprentice) >Final score :: Five 40 - 321 vs. SMRD - 61

JUL 27 :: SMRD received notification of acceptance for our 501(c)(3) status!!!
SEP 1 :: Performed the ALS Ice bucket/pool challenge to raise funds and awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
SEP 11 :: SMRD hosted a Defense Clinic run by four of the DC Roller Girls’ All Stars
SEP 21 :: SMRD against Salisbury Roller Girls’ Wicomikazis (WFTDA) >Final score :: SRG - 303 vs. SMRD - 111
OCT 5 :: SMRD Spirit Night hosted by Checkers of Waldorf, MD
OCT 10 & 11 :: SMRD sponsored and participated in the Monster Glow Dash 5k^[7] - to benefit St. Mary’s Mediation Center
