For example, the 2010 basketball season's north division consists of 6 teams: Illini West, Macomb, Monmouth-Roseville, Orion, Rockridge, and Sherrard. The south division consists of 9 teams: Central (Camp Point), Griggsville-Perry, Liberty, Payson-Seymour, Pittsfield, Southeastern (Augusta), Unity (Mendon), West Hancock (co-op between Hamilton and Warsaw), and Western (Barry).[8]

Cooperative Arrangements

Specific Sport or Activity Members

The Payson-Seymour and Unity coop do not play football in the West Central Conference, they play in the Western Illinois Valley (North) Conference.[9] The Western and Pleasant Hill coop do not play football in the West Central Conference, they play in the Western Illinois Valley (South) Conference.[10] Liberty does not play football.[11]

New Members

Starting with the 2011-2012 school year, the WCC accepted three new football-only members from the now-dissolved North Central Illinois Conference (NCIC). They are Spring Valley (Hall), Mendota, and Princeton High Schools.[12]

Starting with the 2012-2013 school year, Chillicothe's Illinois Valley Central High School and Quincy Notre Dame High School, will join the conference.[13]

History

In 2010 Beardstown and Rushville-Industry left for the Prairieland Conference; and West Prairie left for the Lincoln Trial Conference. In 2010 Macomb, Monmouth-Roseville, Orion, Rockridge, and Sherrard joined from the Olympic Conference; Griggsville-Perry, Liberty, and Payson-Seymour joined from the Pike County Conference, the latter three schools (along with Pittsfield and Western) maintaining concurrent membership in both conferences.

Conference Shakeup

The makeup of the West Central Conference changed dramatically in 2010. Many member schools departed, many of them for the Prairieland Conference. In their place came the remaining members of the now-dissolved Olympic Conference. The conference then divided into north and south divisions for most athletics and activities.
