The Hitachi small-type monorail is a straddle-type monorail built by Hitachi Ltd. for the use on the Sentosa Express. These trains are part of Hitachi line of ALWEG based monorail. The trains were part of a project to replace Sentosa's previous aging monorail system. The trains are fully air-conditioned.
Exterior design
Each train consists has an individual colour scheme - green, orange, blue, purple, pink and red. All train are for passenger service, except for the yellow train, which is the maintenance train.
The straddle-type small monorail is small in size but able to navigate through tight turns.
Interior design
- The colour scheme of the interior is green and orange.
- Foldable seats that can make room for more standing space during periods of high usage.
- SMRT's STARIS are installed on all trains in passenger service and provides commuters with their route information throughout their journey.
- Two wheelchair bays are located in each car of every Sentosa Express train.
Operations and safety systems
Operated by drivers and guided with Automatic Train Protection to ensure trains keep a safe distance between each other and Automatic Train Supervisory to provide the route setting for the train to travel, trains cruise at 15 to 50 km/h (9.3 to 31.1 mph) but is designed to speed up to 80 km/h (50 mph).
